The Poetry of Muhammad Ali
In 1973, three young poets from New York City went to Fighter’s Heaven, Muhammad Ali’s training camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania, to listen to the champion read his poetry.
Victor Bockris, Andrew Wylie and Anton Perich were to visit Ali several times in 1973 and 1974, recording his talks and poems, and his daily routines.
This was the period leading up to the “Rumble in the Jungle”, the championship fight between Ali and George Foreman, in Kinshasa, Zaire, and a time when Ali was at the height of his fame, full of fighting energy, generosity and creativity.
Bockris wrote a biography based on these days in Deer Lake and Perich made a two-hour intimate video portrait of the champion which he only recently found in his archives.
We are happy to show this film in its entirety – uncut, un-narrated, and unformatted for TV
