Victor Bockris, who wrote a biography of Muhammad Ali (“Muhammad Ali in Fighter’s Heaven”), returned to the Deer Lake training camp in 1977, bringing along his friend Andy Warhol.

Warhol had been commissioned to paint the portraits of the greatest athletes of the world and he proceeded to take polaroids of Ali in what proved a difficult meeting, frustrating and enigmatic, yet not devoid of humor.

This short film, made by Bockris and filmmaker David Schmidlapp, proves how cinematic one can be without shooting a single frame of moving picture.
